Deafening Silence

August 25, 2005

Yesterday I commended several religious leaders for quickly and strongly condemning Robertson's most recent dumb statement. However, it seems that not all Christian leaders did so, as the New York Times reported. Robertson Suggests U.S. Kill Venezuela's Leader - New York Times

After quoting a few Christian leaders disagreeing with Robertson, the article added: "But other conservative Christian organizations remained silent, with leaders at the Traditional Values Coalition, the Family Research Council and the Christian Coalition saying they were too busy to comment."

Too busy to comment?! How long does it take to say, "it was wrong," "it was stupid," "please quit listening to him," or "we instead try to preach the love of Jesus?" Some Christians seem unwilling to criticize their brothers or sisters regardless of how wrong they may be. Thankfully Jesus did not act that way toward the Pharisees.
