What Did You Say?!

October 17, 2005

A minister in England, Graham Taylor, was kicked out of a school where he was talking to 12 and 13-year-olds. He apparently used several words the teachers felt were inappropriate for the age group. Entertainment: People Article | Reuters.com

Afterward, Taylor stated:

"I think that my language was appropriate. ...Language changes, and words that once were deemed unacceptable are now part of our culture."

Clearly the teachers felt otherwise. And shouldn't ministers set an example with speech that is above reproach (and not simply meeting the world's standards)?

In a different article, Taylor said:

"I didn't set out to offend. I'm a priest and I'm very careful about not offending people."

If only that were really true about Taylor and all other ministers.
