Never Met Jesus

Here's a post from the DefCon Blog about a recent appearance on CNN by Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League and speaker at the "Just Us Sunday" rallies. If you have never seen him before, the man is usually quite scattered and crazy as a speaker.

During the interview he was denouncing President Bush and everyone else who says "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." He was then asked by the CNN reporter: "What if Jesus got this card? What would he do? Would he be angry about it? He’s be OK with it, wouldn’t he?"

Donahue responded: "Well, maybe he would, but I’ve never met him."

Well, that was obvious wasn't it! Maybe Donahue should spend less time giving speeches at Sunday night political rallies and start listening to sermons. Maybe he should spend less time giving interviews on TV and start reading the Bible. Then maybe he'll meet Jesus and see the error of his ways.

After Donahue’s answer, the reporter responded: “Well, you know what I mean. You follow his precepts. WWJD? He wouldn't be angry about this. He'd say, it's OK.” Donahue did not answer the question.

It is pretty sad when the CNN reporter understands the teachings of Jesus better than the religious leader!

  1. Did the "Holiday" card have pictures of Santa, a tree, stocking etc... or did it have Jesus on it??? Alot of "Christians" are freaking out about the absence of the words "Merry Christmas" out there despite the fact that many have more Santas and trees and glitter and bows than they do Jesus in their holiday celebrations. It is absolutely SICKENING what this world has turned this day into. It's all about the money and greed. Everything is done in extreme excess. Quite sinful actually. And YES, I am a born-again Christian who loves Jesus and Christmas, but I am sad by all the bickering and childish behavior by both sides. Incidently, when sending out dozens and dozens of Christmas cards I sign "Happy Holidays from....." IT SIMPLY SAVES A LITTLE TIME!! Instead of having to write Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I wonder if I am still saved???? OF COURSE I AM>

  2. Unfortunately, I must claim Mr. Donohue as one of my own -- a Catholic. He is a perfect example of a peson who accepts FIRST his cultural and political beliefs as Gospel, then shoehorns in the Saviour if there's room. It must be a Freudian, or divinely inspired, slip for him to admit that he has never met Jesus.

  3. blue scorpion,

You are correct. There are much greater problems, such as the over commercialization of Christmas, than what stores or the president's card may say. Unfortunately when Falwell and others act so childish they hurt the image of all Christians. By the way, the president's "godless" card had a Bible verse on it!

  4. mark anthony,

I think you are absolutely correct in noting that he is working first for political purposes. And that is the root of problems for many Christian leaders today.
