Church Attendance

January 23, 2006

A recent Newsweek column by Robert J. Samuelson, Our History by the Numbers, included some interesting statistics:

"In 1890 only about 34 percent of Americans belonged; by 1989 that share was 60 percent, down slightly from its peak of 64 percent in 1970. This decline may reflect the rise of small storefront congregations, which are missed by membership surveys."

We are actually more religious than we used to be. So much for those Christians that complain about how our society has become godless and left our nation's heritage! Instead of crying out against our nation's culture, perhaps we should praise God for positive developments and attempt to reach out to even more people.
