The former leader of the "Christian Coalition" and darling of the politically-active Christian right was defeated last night in the Republican primary for Georgia's Lt. Governor. Few would have predicted such a defeat just a year or two ago.
Oh how Jack Abramoff has changed things. Whereas once Reed had a bright political future, now he might not have one at all. Whereas once Reed could claim to represent Christian values, now he has been exposed as just another corrupt politician.
Hopefully this will be a lesson for other Christians not to allow their political drive to overwhelm their values. Hopefully doing the right thing will become more important than making sure the "right" candidate is elected.
