Ethics Daily has an article today that highlights some odd reporting by the Baptist Press. The piece notes that the BP ran a story on Fred Thompson's presidential announcement even though they ignored Mike Huckabee's candidacy for months. If they were going to report on one, it would see that it would be the latter since he has formerly served as a Southern Baptist pastor and president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. The piece on Thompson appears to be entirely political without any religious (let alone Baptist) aspect. As I uncovered in an Ethics Daily article last week, Thompson claims to be Church of Christ but attends a Presbyterian church in the Washington, D.C. area (albeit on a very occasional basis). The BP appears to have chosen a candidate (the same one chosen by the SBC's Richard Land). Such reporting calls into question why they are called the Baptist Press.
