Religious Right?

March 10, 2009

Christianity Today had a good piece recently about the misuse of the phrase "Religious Right." The piece points out how the label is often used inaccurately and how it has developed an overly pejorative connotation. The piece also notes that it is especially problematic when "Religious Right" and "evangelical" are used as if they are synonyous. The only part of the piece that is really off-target is when Richard Land talks about "the so-called 'religious right'" as if he is an outsider and not part of this political wing of the conservative Christian movement. Despite that part, it is a good piece that reminds us to carefully consider the meanings and implications of the words we use.
