Conservative Christian Group Met with Rick Perry

July 05, 2011

Ethics Daily ran my latest article today, which is entitled "Conservative Christian Group Met with Rick Perry." It is a follow-up piece to two recent articles about a meeting of nearly 80 pastors and Christian leaders that was called by evangelist James Robison (read my first two articles here and here). Today's article notes that Republican Texas Governor Rick Perry, who is considering a presidential run and has many ties to Robison and others in his group, actually addressed the group to kick off their meeting. On a similar note, Time magazine reported this morning about a phone call that several conservative Christian leaders had with Perry earlier last month. Robison was on the call and told me about it briefly when I talked with him before my recent series of articles. Perry's presence on that phone call, his announced plan for a prayer rally in August in Houston, and then his address to Robison's groups suggest he could be a serious threat as a presidential candidate in our age of confessional politics.
