Religious Moderates Face ChallengeJuly 24, 2013
An Associated Baptist Press (ABP) article quotes me about the challenges - and, maybe, opportunities - facing religious moderates as generational changes threaten to change the current religious-political dynamics. The ABP article, titled "Religious Moderates Face Challenge," looks at implications from a new survey from the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) that shows how younger Americans are more likely to be religious progressives. The findings are not earth-shattering, but do not bode well for religious conservatives who often dominate religious-political discussions. Also interviewed in the ABP article: author Brian McLaren, Baptist history professor Bill Leonard, Alliance of Baptist leader Carol Blythe, and PRRI researcher Dan Cox. Regardless of one's religious or political persuasion, the PRRI survey and the ABP article raise some critical issues that should be discussed.
