Wild Goose Talk

August 12, 2013

Over the weekend I attended the Wild Goose Festival in Hot Springs, North Carolina, and I spoke at the gathering on Saturday. My presentation, titled "Clarence Jordan and 'The Life of Christ,'" covered my work to edit and publish a book manuscript I discovered by Jordan, a co-founder of Koinonia Farm and the creator of the Cotton Patch Gospel. I enjoyed the opportunity to talk about this project and read excerpts from the manuscript (the photo is one of my presentation). I was particularly pleased that people showed up to my talk even though Brian McLaren and William Barber (leader of the "Moral Mondays" movement in NC) were also speaking at that time. Perhaps it helped that my mid-afternoon talk occurred in the air-conditioned Community Center and not outside like McLaren and Barber! Making the time even better, a representative from Koinonia attended to hand out chocolates and newsletters from Koinonia, and I invited her to share updates about the community toward the end of my time. Jeff Brumley of the Associated Baptist Press (ABP) attended the session and wrote a nice article about it. Titled "Jordan challenges Christians in new book," the article also includes some comments I made in a short interview after the session. Brumley wrote another ABP article that covers the Wild Goose Festival in general. I appreciated the opportunity to speak at the Wild Goose Festival and I enjoyed meeting new people.
