Moving Forward

July 02, 2014

On Monday, the City Council of the City of Jefferson held a working session to consider transportation issues. This meeting came as a follow-up to a normal council meeting last month during which groups like Citizens for JeffTran and Faith Voices for Jefferson City went to advocate on behalf of expanding public transportation. I was among the speakers at that meeting as we urged the council to take action since the current schedule remains quite limiting without options in the evenings or on the weekends. Due to the presentation, the mayor set Monday's meeting for council members to discuss transportation issues.

Fortunately, council members voted Monday to actually move forward with considering transportation issues by deciding to hire a consultant and to consider establishing an advisory committee. The latter item is what we specifically asked for at the earlier meeting. The Jefferson City News-Tribune nicely covered the meeting, highlighting the role Citizens for JeffTran has played. I am excited that both council members in my ward supported these efforts to move forward on public transportation. Although much work remains and some council members are still opposed, this was still a positive step.
