Christians Offer Differing Responses to Obama's Immigration Action

November 24, 2014

Ethics Daily ran my latest article today, which is titled "Christians Offer Differing Responses to Obama's Immigration Action." The pieces includes comments from several different Christian leaders, many of whom support Obama's effort to prevent the possible deportation of millions of undocumented immigrants. Interestingly, two prominent Southern Baptist leaders appeared more hung up on the issue of executive power than the families impacted by the decision (and despite previous presidents taking similar executive actions). Nearly everyone I quoted, however, urged Congress and Obama to work together on crafting more comprehensive and more permanent immigration reform.

One resource I noted in the article is the Ethics Daily documentary Gospel Without Borders. The insightful and well-made film refutes some common myths about undocumented immigrants - including a couple Obama inaccurately used in his speech explaining his executive actions. With immigration in the news and sparking a lot of unhelpful rhetoric, the film offers a civil and informative way to consider the important issues.
