Book Coverage

December 22, 2014

Two publications carried news recently about my new book, Sacramental Politics: Religious Worship as Political Action. The book, which is now available for purchase, examines critical issues of religion, politics, and communication. The first piece on the book came in the Churchnet newsletter page that ran Thursday in the Word&Way (a newspaper covering Baptists in the Midwest). The piece introduces the book, its themes, and early endorsements. I am grateful for the support of Churchnet, where I work as Communications & Engagement Leader. I dedicated Sacramental Politics in memory of Dr. H. K. Neely, who was the first Executive Director of Churchnet (then known as the Baptist General Convention of Missouri) and hired me. In the dedication, I praise Dr. Neely (who passed away in 2013 as I started the book) as "an insightful educator, mentor, and boss."

The second piece about my book appeared Friday from Baptist News Global. Bob Allen, who has read the book, wrote a nice review article. His piece covers some of the main arguments from the book and sprinkles in quotations. The headline of the article nicely captures my sentiments: "Religion and politics do mix, Baptist author says, but not always in healthy ways." It is a good piece and I appreciate the coverage.
