Catholic Expert Depicts Pope as "Moderate in Extreme"

March 03, 2015

Next week marks the two-year anniversary of the election of Pope Francis. Since that day when the white smoke rose from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, Francis has sparked many headlines with his unique tone, style, and charisma. A new book by journalist and Vatican expert John L. Allen, Jr. offers a nuanced and interesting look at Francis and his papacy. The book, The Francis Miracle, came out today.

I received an advance copy of the book and wrote about some of Allen's arguments in an Ethics Daily article today. The article is titled "Catholic Expert Depicts Pope as 'Moderate in Extreme.'" Allen makes some important arguments, especially about Francis's moderate approach and how it can change the Catholic Church. In comments he offered to me for the article, Allen also explained why Protestants should be interested and how Francis has been ecumenical.
