Ukrainian Pastor Speaks of Hope Amid War

June 02, 2015

On Sunday, I heard Ukrainian Baptist pastor Elisey Pronin speak at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, Missouri. His city in eastern Ukraine found itself in the middle of war as pro-Russian separatists seek to secede from Ukraine. Most of the city has been destroyed, and his thriving church burnt by the separatists. Yet, he remains hopeful as he continues to minister and sees God still working.

I found Pronin's presentation moving and wrote about it for Ethics Daily. I hope the article, Ukrainian Pastor Speaks of Hope Amid War, helps take his story to more people. One of the photos that ran with the piece is one I took of Pronin at First Baptist, and the other is one he took of the burnt church building. We need to hear from our brothers and sisters in other countries so we can better understand their needs and dreams.
