Africans Welcome Global Baptists to BWA Congress

July 23, 2015

The Baptist World Congress opened Wednesday in Durban, South Africa. The first Congress held in Africa, the opening worship session included an energetic welcome from African Baptists. My latest Ethics Daily article, Africans Welcome Global Baptists to BWA Congress, reports on that focus. The piece includes comments from an interview I had with Paul Msiza, a South African who will serve as Baptist World Alliance president from 2015-2020. I also highlight how the Congress embraces the many languages represented at the Congress.

The above picture of Msiza is one of many I took during the first day of the Congress, and Baptist News Global ran it with an article. Another Baptist News Global article includes a photo I took of the evening's preacher, Peter Chin of the Republic of Korea. You can see my full album of the day here.

I also shot a couple of short videos during the opening worship session. The first video features South African performers singing as flags of African nations rotate on the screen. The second video features South African performers singing "We love you, Madiba" (Nelson Mandela). I enjoyed the African flavor to the worship and look forward to the rest of the Congress.
