IMB Spending Claims to Justify Layoffs Don't Match Audits

November 24, 2015

EthicsDaily.com ran a two-part series of articles I wrote on "IMB Spending Claims to Justify Layoffs Don't Match Audits." Earlier this fall, the Southern Baptist Convention's International Mission Board (IMB) announced a massive deficit and plans for a large cut in the number of missionaries. I compared the claims to the IMB's audits and found several significant differences. At times the numbers seem inaccurate, and at other times the IMB appears to use confuse different accounting concepts.

Here are the articles:
IMB Spending Claims to Justify Layoffs Don't Match Audits, part 1
IMB Spending Claims to Justify Layoffs Don't Match Audits, part 2

In both articles, I explain the numbers and include responses I received from an IMB spokesperson. I hope the articles will lead to greater clarity, accuracy, and transparency.
