Human Trafficking

January 20, 2016

I wrote the cover package for the January issue of Word&Way, a Baptist magazine in the Midwest. The theme for two articles is "Human Trafficking." January is "Human Trafficking Awareness Month" as an effort to bring attention to this important issue.

The first article, Baptists Minister to Survivors of Human Trafficking, features two U.S. ministries that minister to local survivors of human trafficking. Quoted in the piece are Rodney Hammer (executive director of missions for Blue River-Kansas City Baptist Association) and Sandra Johnson (a North American Mission Board Mission Service Corps missionary in North Carolina). Both are in leadership position with survivor ministries.

The second article, Baptists Speak out Against Human Trafficking, notes various statements Baptist groups have offered on the topic. The piece also quotes Alicia and Jeff Lee (Cooperative Baptist Fellowship field personnel in Skopje, Macedonia).

I hope the two articles help bring more attention and support to life-saving ministries working to stop human trafficking and help survivors.
