Baptists in Nation of Georgia Criticize Blasphemy BillFebruary 16, 2016
Religious liberty is one of the most important values for a truly free society. The term often gets thrown around inappropriately today as if it's a sledgehammer for the majority to use against minority faiths or nonbelievers. True religious liberty is for all! At its core, religious liberty particularly provides protections for those who need it most - those in the minority.
EthicsDaily.com ran my latest article today, which explores a religious liberty debate emerging in the former Soviet-bloc country of Georgia. The article, Baptists in Nation of Georgia Criticize Blasphemy Bill, looks at reactions to a proposed bill that might be used to punish and silence minority voices. The article includes comments from two Georgian Baptist leaders: Bishop Malkhaz Songulashvili and Bishop Rusudan Gotsiridze.
I appreciate the strong public moral witness of Baptist leaders in Georgia and I pray they will be successful in stopping this problematic legislation.
