Prison Ministry & AdvocacyMarch 21, 2016
I wrote the cover package for the March issue of Word&Way (a Baptist magazine in the Midwest) on prison reform and advocacy.
The first article, Unlocking a Mission Field, looks at Baptists engaged in prison ministries. It includes comments from Burton Barr (associate minister at West Side Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis), David Tolliver (institutional chaplain at the Jefferson City Correctional Center), and Ken Hunt (pastor of Church of Hope, a congregation inside the South Dakota Women’s Prison in Pierre, S.D.).
The second article, Pursing Prison Reform, looks at Baptists looking to improve the criminal justice system. It includes comments from Alan Bean (a Baptist minister who founded Friends of Justice) and Cliff Vaughn (media producer for EthicsDaily.com).
I hope the articles spark more discussion and involvement in these important areas.
