Communications Training Seminar

July 14, 2016

A highlight for me during last week's annual gathering of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) came as I co-led a communications training seminar with my Ethics Daily colleague Cliff Vaughn. The seminar emerged as a project of the BWA Communications Committee, for which I serve as vice-chair. Our topic was "how to use photography to break down barriers and bring persons together.”

We covered a variety of topics during the seminar, including the importance of images in communication, tips for better photography and videos, ethical considerations, and using images on social media. Our focus was on helping those who don't lead their ministry's communication efforts (like denominational heads and pastors). We had a great crowd and excellent dialogue time at the end.

It was also fun to see some people trying out some of the advice on Twitter and Facebook throughout the week. I hope the seminar will help Baptist leaders use photos and videos more effectively to tell the good stories of their ministries.
