Meetings of Global BaptistsMarch 14, 2017
I recently attended the annual meeting of the Baptist World Alliance Executive Committee in Falls Church, Virginia. I serve as vice chair of the BWA's Communications Advisory Committee and as a member of the Awards Committee and the Commission on Christian Ethics.
The meetings included people from around the world. It is particularly exciting to hear reports on the work from many countries, like Bolivia, Cayman Islands, Ghana, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, Vietnam, and many more.
Following the BWA meeting, I attended a meeting of the North American Baptist Fellowship (a regional BWA organization that unites Baptists in Canada and the United States). The meeting included a report from two Syrian Christians, who shared powerful stories of their ministry in the midst of war.
The meeting also featured a presentation by Melissa Rogers, who just finished four years serving as executive director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, on issues of faith and politics. Rogers previously offered the back-cover endorsement of my second book (Presidential Campaign Rhetoric in an Age of Confessional Politics).
