New Morning

On Friday (April 21), Churchnet held its 2017 Spring Gathering at Parkade Baptist Church in Columbia, Mo. The meeting's theme was "New Morning: Engaging the Future With Hope." As Churchnet's Associate Director, I helped lead a couple of sessions.

I moderated a breakout session on "Welcoming the Immigrant and Refugee." Helle Liht, assistant general secretary of the European Baptist Federation, joined the session via live video to talk about the work of Baptists in Europe and the Middle East. It's inspiring and convicting to hear these stories, which I'd previously heard from Helle at Baptist World Alliance meetings. I pray Baptists in the U.S. will follow the lead of our brothers and sisters in Lebanon, Germany, Hungary, Serbia, and elsewhere.

Later, I spoke during the missions banquet that featured stories about Churchnet's partnerships in Guatemala and Cuba. Also sharing stories from recent trips were Gary Snowden (missional collaboration team leader for Churchnet and associate pastor at First Baptist Church in Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Terrell Carter (pastor of Webster Groves Baptist Church in Webster Groves, Mo.). I pray that our partnership will continue to bless Baptists in those nations and in Missouri.

The Spring Gathering also marked the installing of Brian Ford as Churchnet's third executive director and a celebration of Jim Hill's 13-year tenure as executive director. I made a video to honor Jim that played during the service and you can watch it below. I am thankful for Jim's role in my life as a boss, mentor, and friend.
