New BWA General Secretary

A key decision for the 2017 annual gathering of the Baptist World Alliance was to elect a new general secretary (essentially the executive director or CEO). Neville Callam announced last November he would retire at the end of 2017 after more than a decade in the position. I interviewed Callam during this year's gathering and that interview will be in the August issue of Word&Way.

The new general secretary will be Elijah Brown, a human rights advocate I've known for several years. After the vote, he was greeting people as he walked down the aisle toward the stage. So, I grabbed a quick selfie with him - and BWA staffer Eron Henry captured the moment as well.
