Racism in the White Church

My friend W.T. Edmonson hosts a local television program in Jefferson City, Mo., called "FOCUS." He recently invited me to join a discussion on the program along with my friend Beau Underwood, senior minister at First Christian Church in Jefferson City. The topic was "Racism in the White Church."

Edmonson, who is black and in his 60s, wanted to dialogue with us as white Christians in our 30s. I was honored he would invite me to participate and I hope our conversation is helpful. Edmonson, who is also associate pastor at Second Baptist Church in Jefferson City, has been a prophetic voice in our community.

Talking about race - and, more importantly, racism - is not always comfortable in our society or even our churches. But we must have these conversations, especially in white churches where it's too easy to ignore the issues when we don't think they impact "us." The conversation is broken into two 30-minute segments. I hope you'll watch both part one and part two.
