This Week's BWA Meetings

I spent much of this week in Falls Church, Va., at meetings of the Baptist World Alliance (I serve as vice chair of the Communications Advisory Committee and as member of the General Council, Awards Committee, and Commission on Christian Ethics). I enjoy the time to gather together with Baptist leaders from around the world for dialogue, ministry planning, and fellowship. There were Baptists from about 20 countries at this week's meetings. I even met a Baptist king from Nigeria!

The meetings marked the first session with new BWA General Secretary Elijah Brown and new North American Baptist Fellowship General Secretary Jeremy Bell. It also included a special dinner on religious liberty with remarks by Melissa Rogers (a Baptist who led the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships during President Barack Obama's second term) and Rabbi David Saperstein (United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom from 2014-2017). It's good to recognize the importance of religious liberty in our Baptist heritage and in the world today.

You can see more photos from the meetings in an album here. And I'll be writing about some of the presentations for the April issue of Word&Way, so subscribe now so you don't miss out!
