Missouri's New Governor

On Tuesday, embattled Missouri Governor Eric Greitens suddenly announced his resignation, which will be effective on Friday. He's faced several ethical and legal scandals over the past four months, and state lawmakers were in a special session to consider impeaching him. Still, his move was a sudden shift from his previously defiant refusals to resign. This is a good change for Missouri as he clearly lacked the moral and ethical character to lead.

With his resignation, Missouri's next governor will be Mike Parson. A Baptist, I actually interviewed him last year for Word&Way. You can read that interview to learn more about Missouri's 57th governor (who probably couldn't be more different in tone and personality than Greitens). In the interview, Parson talks about faith, politics, dark money, and more.

Hopefully Parson will be able to improve Missouri's politics by bringing moral character, transparency, and an ability to work with others.
